I think the way luxury cars are advertised has a lot to do with this. Consider the tagline of BMW, "The Ultimate Driving Machine". The basic message is "you are better than everyone else, you deserve a BMW". That type of pitch appeals to assholes.
So great to find this account. I've been looking for Substacks that cover public transport, and I would love to know if you have others you recommend. Amazing, controversial title, ha!
it sounded that way. I don't bike much, tbh, and I try to drive with a certain empathy with those in the bike lane here in the Bay Area if I'm driving with them. They *can* be a bit militant...which is all the more reason to drive with a certain empathy. I was more of a transit rider when I was in the city (SF, Chicago or Tokyo, most of all). in any case, your opinionated-ness is a delight to read. please keep it up!
I loved the title of that study. Here is another one from the University of Nevada finding that that every thousand bucks of added value decreases the odds of yielding to pedestrians by three percent. https://www.treehugger.com/yet-another-study-confirms-drivers-expensive-cars-are-more-likely-ignore-pedestrians-4847431

Or Mercedes: The Best or Nothing. (I'll have nothing, please—if by nothing, you mean a bicycle and transit.)

If I wasn’t sitting I would have fell over laughing reading this. Thank you
Glad you liked it! This was an easy one to write, as I have years of experience in the matter. And lots of near misses to fuel my passion.
