Back in October, I hauled a half dozen books off the shelves I have devoted to all things city- and transportation-related, and wrote about how these often little-known works have had a big influence on my thinking—both before and after writing Straphanger. That dispatch, which you can find here, provoked a lot of discussion, and some great suggestions, in the comments and on social media. (Thanks David HD, I’m going to check out Pete Jordan’s City of Bikes!) I took photos of these foxed and dog-eared volumes, which are often hedgehog-bristly with Post-It Notes.
